The men from Massachusetts showed no more sign of giving back before the enemy than had their brethren from the sister provinces. Loading and firing as quickly as their old-fashioned muskets allowed, they poured so deadly a fire into the French ranks that the latter could make no material advance, but were compelled to keep behind cover, and return the fire as best they might.

The conflict had continued in this fashion for nearly an hour with considerable loss of life on both sides, but without definite advantage, when Seth, becoming convinced that an officer in rich uniform, whom he could see at the centre of the French line, was their commander, determined to try if he could not shoot him down, as he reasoned that this would put them in a panic.

Happy No Matter What Happens

Be Grateful
Gratitude is a sign of appreciation and you ought to show appreciation for life. Always wake up every morning in acknowledgement that someone died the previous night but you didn’t, someone did not wake up but you did. Let me give you a little exercise, next time you feel as if everything is working against you and there is nothing to be thankful for, pick up a pen and a piece of paper and make a list of things you should be thankful for, for example, I woke up this morning, I have food on my table, I have clothes to wear, I have a good paying job even though my boss is a jerk, the skies are beautiful and the atmosphere is great. By the time you finish this little exercise, I can assure you that you will feel better already.

Exercise regularly
Unhappiness can result from stressing our bodies and minds. Scientists believe that 20 minutes of exercise can make you happy regardless of how sad you may be. Exercise raises your heart rate and triggers a surge of hormonal changes. As your heart begins to pound, certain hormones are released which create a sense of total well being and you begin to feel well again, the mind stress is gone and everything is under control. Another thing you can do is take a walk, this works for me all the time. When you take a walk, you are able to think over matters that are bothering you and come up with solutions to them.

Make somebody happy
“The best way to cheer yourself is to try to cheer somebody else up.” – Mark Twain

When you sow happiness, you reap happiness. Mother Teresa knew this secret so well; she devoted her life to helping others even if it simply meant putting a smile on someone’s face. Here is a sum of two of her famous quotes: “A life not lived for others is not a life; let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.”

Rocking Chair

Is it possible that grandparents are working out more than any other members of the family? Absolutely - I see energetic Chair Yoga classes with as many as 50 people in a single class. Lately, I have been training local Yoga teachers to keep up with this popular demand.

There are Yoga instructors who teach exclusively at senior centers, assisted living complexes, adult day care centers, and nursing homes. There are more Yoga teaching opportunities, to work with seniors, than there are Yoga teachers to fill the need.

Seniors are enthusiastic, fun to work with, appreciative, courteous, and the work is rewarding, in more ways than one. I have seen stroke victims make fantastic recoveries within an enthusiastic crowd of peers. Even in the summer, they faithfully continue to practice Chair Yoga.

Senior Yoga students have more ailments than any other age group, and they do less complaining than their grandchildren. On top of the fact that they have great social skills, seniors often refer their less fit, and younger, family members to my wellness center.

Senior classes are usually held in the morning or early afternoon, in just about every community. If you are interested in learning, contact your local senior center for information.

If you are a Yoga teacher, you should be "knocking on doors" at your local senior center. The sky is the limit, and this field is truly in need of innovative, compassionate teachers, with knowledge of body mechanics.

the packet instructions.

Transform a little minced beef into a luscious spicy stew with beans, served with rice and a dollop of yoghurt to control the heat. This is designed to be a low cost recipe.

This chilli can be made in advance and frozen, just leave to cool completely and pop in a freezer-proof container. It will keep in the freezer for up to 2 months.

1 tbsp olive oil

1 onion, diced

2 garlic cloves, chopped

250g/9oz beef mince

½ -1 tsp chilli flakes, to taste

400g tin chopped tomatoes

500ml/18fl oz stock, made from a stock cube (ideally beef, but chicken is fine)

½ tsp dried mixed herbs

2 x 400g tins red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

200g/7oz long grain rice

200g/7oz natural yoghurt

salt and pepper

Preparation method

Heat a large saucepan over a medium heat. Add the olive oil and, once hot, fry the onion with a pinch of salt for 5 minutes, or until soft and translucent. Once soft, add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes.

Add the mince, along with a good pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until there are no raw bits of meat. Add the chilli flakes, tomatoes, stock and dried mixed herbs. Stir to mix well and bring to a simmer.

Pour in the drained kidney beans and simmer gently for 30 minutes, or until the chilli con carne is thickened and rich. Taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary.

Meanwhile, cook the rice according to the packet instructions.

Serve the chilli con carne on top of the rice with a spoonful or two of yoghurt on top of each portion. Eat while hot.

Set in the American West

It’s a short, simple sequence – and Cimino filmed it 52 times. “That’s all we shot that day,” groans Sandra Jordan, the key costumer, in a documentary about the production. “And it went on and on and on and on.”

Heaven’s Gate has been a synonym for Hollywood folly

It is thanks to Cimino’s perfectionism that Heaven’s Gate is now feted as a masterpiece. There are five-star reviews all over the DVD box, and the film was ranked at number 98 in BBC Culture’s poll of the 100 Greatest American Films. But the director’s painstaking methods also explain why the film went four times over budget and a year behind schedule. When it finally premiered, 35 years ago, its soundtrack could barely be heard over gossip about Cimino’s self-indulgence and the studio’s impatience. The critics pronounced it an “unqualified disaster”, and the viewing public agreed. Ever since, Heaven’s Gate has been a synonym for Hollywood folly.

It had all started so promisingly. Cimino had been an advertising whizz-kid who moved into film with the Clint Eastwood/Jeff Bridges crime caper, Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, in 1974. His follow-up was an elegiac Vietnam drama, The Deer Hunter, a critical smash that went on to win five Oscars reenex, including Best Picture, in 1979.

Any studio would have been keen to finance his third film, but none was keener than United Artists: its top executives had just walked out over a disagreement with UA’s parent company, Transamerica, so their replacements were desperate to be associated with a prestigious hit. One of those replacements was Stephen Bach. “Heaven’s Gate was to be the proud centerpiece of the new administration’s slate of pictures,” he wrote in his book about the debacle, Final Cut. “Our Lawrence of Arabia, our Doctor Zhivago, set in the American West reenex.”

The film’s subject was the Johnson County War of 1889-1893, a conflict between Wyoming’s biggest cattle ranchers and the immigrant homesteaders who challenged their monopoly. In Cimino’s version of events, the cigar-puffing patricians of the Stockgrowers’ Association compile “a death list” of 125 Central and Eastern Europeans they have classed as cattle rustlers, and they recruit a small army of mercenaries to wipe them out reenex.

the Israelis and Palestinians

Some of these have been successful, including those between Egypt and Israel and Israel and Jordan, but a settlement has still not been reached in the core conflict - the dispute between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Here are the main peace proposals since 1967 and what happened to them.
UN Security Council Resolution 242, 1967

Resolution 242 was passed on 22 November 1967 and embodies the principle that has guided most of the subsequent peace plans - the exchange of land for peace.

The resolution is famous for the imprecision, in English, of its central phase concerning an Israeli withdrawal - it says simply "from territories". The Israelis said this did not necessarily mean all territories, but Arab negotiators argued that it did.

The BOJ's current stimulus

The benchmark Nikkei 225 initially fell on the decision by more than 0.4%.

But as investors digested the news, and uncertainty around the much-anticipated Friday announcement dissipated, the index recovered to close up 0.78% at 19,083.1 points.

The bank's 2% inflation target was also pushed back by about six months.

While forecasts for economic growth for the year to March 2016 were also lowered to 1.2% from 1.7%.

Bank of Japan's (BOJ) governor Haruhiko Kuroda told reporters on Friday the inflation target timing had been delayed "largely due to the effect of energy price falls".

The BOJ's current stimulus package is designed to give a boost to the world's third-largest, but struggling, economy.

Private consumption makes up some 60% of Japan's economic activity, but the country has struggled with deflation, or falling prices, for more than 15 years. Lower prices for goods in the country have seen consumers hold on to their money in the hope of even lower prices later on.

The stimulus packaged is designed to encourage lending, which in turn should see consumers spending more.

Earlier on Friday, a string of domestic data showed Japan's core consumer inflation number had fallen 0.1% in September from a year ago, household spending had fallen 0.4% year-on-year while unemployment had remained steady at 3.4% compared to August.she's trying to tell

an important milestone.

Turing has influenced how we view AI ever since – the Turing Test has often been held up as a vital threshold AI must pass en route to true intelligence. If an AI machine could fool people into believing it is human in conversation, he proposed, then it would have reached an important milestonereenex.

What's more, the Turing Test has been referenced many times in popular-culture depictions of robots and artificial life – perhaps most notably inspiring the polygraph-like Voight-Kampff Test that opened the movie Blade Runner. It was also namechecked in Alex Garland’s Ex Machina.

But more often than not, these fictional representations misrepresent the Turing Test, turning it into a measure of whether a robot can pass for human. The original Turing Test wasn’t intended for that, but rather, for deciding whether a machine can be considered to think in a manner indistinguishable from a human - and that, even Turing himself discerned, depends on which questions you ask.reenex

What’s more, there are many other aspects of humanity that the test neglects – and that’s why several researchers have devised new variants of the Turing Test that aren’t about the capacity to hold a plausible conversation.for this entireCG210

the reform commission

Domenico Scala, Fifa's independent head of audit and compliance, is due to present a series of reforms for executive committee members to consider at Monday's meeting.

Some of Scala's planned reforms are thought to include:

Publishing the salaries of Fifa's president and executive committee members
Introducing term limits for all Fifa executives and its president, likely to be a maximum of three terms of four years
Making Fifa responsible for integrity checks on potential executive committee members away from regional confederations and introducing a centralised 'fit and proper person' testreenex
Fifa's annual congress of 209 member associations to directly elect executive committee members.

It is possible, however, that no agreement will be reached and that the executive committee will decide it wants to wait for a new president to be elected.

Despite that, Blatter's desire to leave office on a relative high - after pushing through change - should ensure that some or all of the measures are approved.

the US Cygnus ship

It was already operating its supplies at less than ideal levels. This was the result of recent launch failures on two other freighter systems - the US Cygnus ship and the Russian Progress craft.

Before today, the stores on the ISS were good until October. The Russians will now have another go at re-stocking the 400km-high space lab next Friday, and there will be an enormous amount riding on that flight as a consequence.

For the moment, the partner nations still plan to raise the current three-person crew to six in July. But they will surely keep that decision under review until they can be certain there are sufficient reserves of food and water to sustain a full crew complement of astronauts in orbit.

A word also for the satellite industry. This will have its head in its hands today.

The big satellite operators effectively only have three competitive companies to put up their spacecraft - Europe's Arianespace (Ariane-5 rocket), SpaceX (Falcon-9) and International Launch Services (Proton rocket).

Already, the Proton is grounded because of yet another failure this year. And with the Falcon now under investigation, it leaves only the Ariane-5 to service the commercial launch manifest.

United Nations High

Many human rights advocates have criticized the transfer, which is part of Australia's attempts to deter potential migrants by intercepting boatloads of refugees at sea and sending them to Nauru for processing. None of those intercepted are allowed to enter Australia.

"This really boils down to Australia paying blood money to Cambodia to rid itself of a refugee burden it doesn't want to handle," said Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director of U.S.-based Human Rights Watch. Robertson accused Australia of operating a "cynical" policy of using Cambodia as a "dumping ground" for migrants.

One major intergovernmental refugee organization -- the International Organization for Migration (IOM) -- assisted in the transfer, seeing it as offering a better future for the migrants involved than remaining in Nauru. However, most international organizations and NGOs dealing with refugee and human rights issues have expressed deep concern.

Amnesty International, a U.K.-based rights group, called the agreement "a new low in Australia's deplorable and inhumane treatment" of refugees seeking asylum, most of whom come from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria and South Asia. More diplomatically, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres called it "a worrying departure from international norms."

During military conflicts

The military use of dolphins and sea lions has come under strong criticism from researchers and animal rights groups. During military conflicts, these and other sea mammals are at risk of being killed by mines or shot by enemy forces. And even in peacetime, the animals are subjected to conditions that put them under heavy stress, including lengthy air travel and different water temperatures, often resulting in a shorter life span than their counterparts in the wild.

The U.S. military is trying to protect its image by increasing its transparency regarding its handling of sea mammals. But it still faces strong criticism over the issue.

A British soldier and a military dog are seen in the Afghan capital of Kabul in August 2007. The area had recently been attacked by a suicide bomber. © AP

On land, dogs are widely employed by militaries around the world to detect explosives and perform other dangerous tasks. Some of these canines lose their lives or show symptoms similar to those of post-traumatic stress disorder after being sent into war zones. These animals are simply following instructions from humans they trust, without understanding what the instructions actually mean.

Over the centuries, a variety of animals have been used in wars, including horses, elephants, camels and pigeons. And across these years, people's views on the military use of these creatures have changed.感動した本の一節

there was only one lineage

Historically, because we didn't have the fossil evidence to show there was hominin diversity during the middle Pliocene, we thought there was only one lineage, one primitive ancestor - in this case Australopithecus afarensis, Lucy - giving rise to the next.

"That hypothesis of linear evolution has to be revisited. And now with the discovery of more species, like this new one... you have another species roaming around.

"What this means is we have many species that could give rise to later hominins, including our own genus Homo."

Dr Haile-Selassie said that even more fossils need to be unearthed, to better understand the path that human evolution took.

He added that finding additional ancient remains could also help researchers examine how the different species lived side-by-side - whether they mixed or avoided each other, and how they shared food and other resources in their landscape.

Paula Radcliffe says women

"A sports bra should be as important as your shoes and you should replace them as often as you replace your shoes. If we educate and empower women, we would get 100% of them wearing a sports bra."

If there is a need to educate and empower, there is also a need to entice. World marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe says women need to feel good when exercising.

Ten years ago it would have been difficult for women of cup sizes D and above to buy suitable sports bras, but there has since been an "explosion" in the market as manufacturers have grasped the need for good supportive, fashionable sports bras.

"There are a lot more insecurities stopping women taking part in sport than there are for men," says the three-time London Marathon winner.

"A lot of women want to feel comfortable, feel attractive, feel good about themselves when they're doing sports."

A further 17 Iraqis were injured as the private contractors opened fire to clear the way for a US convoy.

The shootings sparked international outrage and a debate over the role of defence contractors in warfare.

In a court in Washington DC, Paul Slough, Evan Liberty and Dustin Heard were all sentenced to 30 years in prison for their involvement in the killings.

The men had claimed that they were under fire from insurgents but prosecutors successfully argued what happened was an unprovoked ambush against civilians.
